Back on the road again! Onward to NC to see the new baby. We camped at a typical KOA at the northeastern border of FL. Clean and spacious. Unfortunately we can't seem to escape trains! Argh... earplugs it is. The next day, 300+ miles onward into SC where we found a nice little spot, 5 mi from HwY95 1 mi from RR tracks. Jury was still out on the train when we set up camp! :-( The next morning the verdict was in: train won, we lost! Finally, another 200+ miles northeast, we arrived in Fayetteville, NC and here we found..... Adeline! What a red headed cutie. Well, Bruce won this gene pool bet! :-) |

A BIRTHDAY & A JAZZ FESTIVAL - what fun!
If you've followed our blog, you know that we are fair weather travelers. Hey, no need to push the envelope! There is no shame in wanting mother nature to be on your side. That said, I'll confess that we took longer overwintering in Florida & Washington than we had originally planned. Not that we plan much, but we thought that we'd be farther north by now. However, mother nature had a plan for us and that is to bore you with all my oohs and aahs about all the absolutely beautiful flowers that only Spring can bring in the Pacific Northwest. Besides the spectacular flowers in the small town of Ballard, WA, where we stayed while visiting Erin & John Paul, we also went to the Skagit Tulip Festival in, of course, Tuliptown, north of Anacortes, WA. I'll only showcase a few pics here. The rest of our collection of these spectacular flowers can be found on our 'Wild Life & Flowers' page. Check it out! SPRING in the Pacific Northwest! Flowers, flowers, and more flowers Life in the Pacific Northwest doesn't stop when the clouds are looming overhead, or when rain is pelting against the windowpanes, but when the sun shine.... life explodes... People come out like ants crawling out of ant holes, farmer markets are crowded with flowers, produce and all sorts of yummy food, dogs walkers with their packs are crowding the parks and beaches, and whenever there's a sunny spot, someone is sitting in the sun basking in the sun rays... soaking up all the vitamin D they've lost during the winter months. Below are some snapshots of the first days of Spring in and around the Puget Sound, Gig Harbor, historical Ballard, the Locks at Ballard, Edmond and, of course, Shilshole where Clarity is slipped.
Rainbows, clear skies and a birthday surprise at Gig Harbor

Northbound to the panhandle of Florida, Allan finally caught up with his long time friend in St. Petersburg. Can you believe that these two were friends since grade school. Such innocence... and now... a retired judge and a retired skeeter beater! Can you guess what they were discussing? HEARING AIDS!!!! :-) EEEH??? |
We had such a great time. We even went to David's grand daughter's Fish Fry! Additionally, David took us to the famous Chihuly museum. Interestingly enough, a week after our visit, the museum was burglarized.... hmm... ? More interesting, the burglar returned the piece he stole,... guilt? Remorse? Testing security of the museum? Or, just couldn't sell it anywhere? Who knows? Crazy! |
We took a Catamaran Ferry from Ft. Meyers to Key West with the thought that we should be able to take another ferry to the Dry Tortugas..... NOT! Mother Nature spoiled it for us AGAIN! Even though it was a spectacular sunny day, there were small craft warnings! Soooo, no going further as it was another 70 nautical miles onward. But, we found this tiny museum in Key West, so we did have a chance to learn much about the Dry Tortugas. And.... we roamed around Key West! A very interesting place indeed |
