I'll have to catch you up on all the places we've seen and passed along our way towards North Carolina where we'll be having Thanksgiving with our niece and her little family. So, allow me to provide you with a few highlights of our trip so far.
South Carolina - Congaree National Park - the most diverse swamp forest. We went there on a misty day and it surely was one of the eeriest places to visit. Water, water, everywhere and even a mosquito meter! I was certain that an alligator was going to come and gape open its jaw at us at anytime.
Alabama - To continue my education, we headed towards Selma, the infamous place where 'Bloody Sunday' happened and resulted in the epic march over the Edmund Pettus Bridge, lead by MLK from Selma to Montgomery.
On our way to S. Carolina, we also stopped at Enterprise, AL where the famous Boll Weevil Monument stood. This is the only monument dedicated to an insect. Of course Allan had to check it out.
Georgia - Visiting our friends in Atlanta, we found out that Georgia is the land of the BOILED PEANUTS and CHICKFILET. Kim made me try some... surprise..surprise the ChickFilet was actually good. We did skip the boiled peanuts though. And I think you can understand that when you find a place like this road side stand, I think you'll skip the peanuts too! :-)
After visiting Kim & Keith, we continued to MLK's birthplace in Atlanta. I wasn't aware that Gandhi was MLK's inspiration. It certainly gave me a better appreciation of the civil rights movement during the day. After MLK's birthplace visit we were determined to learn more about his efforts and continue our route to Alabama to visit Selma, the place of that famous 'Bloody Sunday'.
We also found out that Senoia was on our way to Selma, for those who don't know the significance of Senoia... that is the Filming site of the 'WALKING DEAD'.... wooooooo.....

Kentucky - Via narrow and windy roads all draped with beautiful fall colors and deer all around us, onward we went to the world longest cave: The Mammoth Caves. Imagine 400 miles of caves! Unbelievable. If you stretch the caves on one linear line, this web of caves would stretch the span of the entire state! We were lucky enough to tour these caves as one would have done in the distance past, with lanterns... It was EERIE, creepy, critters living on the ceiling and very very DARK! After that, a little more history and away we went to see Lincoln's birthplace. His mother was a true beauty - check it out...
Tennessee - Nashville - The Pfuntner's sons, Pfuntner's Pfunky Griddle numero dos, the Pfunky neighborhood of the artsy sound stages where Michael's creative talents are challenged, the Pfunky foam in the Pfuntner's swimming pool, the Pfunky Car Museum, and a bonus - the Stones River Battlefield Historic Site. Oh, of course, Halloween in Gatlinburg... where all the strange people swarmed the main street of Gatlinburg... mucho interesanto! :-O
