In honor of all veterans who have fought so fiercely upholding every citizen's freedom I'd like to tell you about the special men who defied all odds during WWII, the Tuskegee Airmen. Allan & I went to Tuskegee, AL and toured the National Historic Site at the Moton Air Field, where young African-Americans came to Tuskegee from all over the nation to train as military pilots during the worst of times. It was the times of the Jim Crow laws, the time of Racism, the Klu Klux Klan era, and the time of lynching. A double victory was needed. A victory abroad and a victory at home. These young men fought and perished for their country while their country shamelessly considered them the lesser race. Much was at stake, they dared not fail. Success would not only mean that African-Americans pilots were proven to be just as good as their white counterparts, but that the African-American Race is NOT a lesser race.... and SUCCESSFUL they were! |
