Holy cow! These folks are riding on the interstate highways in TX with vehicles traveling by at 80 mph. YIKES!
OK, we know Texas is big... but seriously....? Crossing the border from NM to TX, the speed limit went up to 80 mph... Poor Gertrude, huff'n & puff'n trying to keep up with all the big rigs on the main highway... and............ Holy cow! These folks are riding on the interstate highways in TX with vehicles traveling by at 80 mph. YIKES! Traveling through the Chihuahuan Desert and traversing the Guadalupe Mountains, towards Alpine, TX before visiting Big Bend, National Park, we see that the desert has started blooming. The Guadalupe Mountains Yucca Plants are blooming, and everywhere we see blooms. So, heads up, when we get to Big Bend, we'll bore you with all sorts of photos of desert blooms. Here's a preview, and of course, another beautiful sunset at our RV camp. Cheers!

07/07/1947 - Brazel and Marcel investigated the debris site on the ranch. Marcel showed the 'stuff' to his boss, Col. Blanchard. G. Dennis the mortician in town received a call from Roswell Army Airfield (RAAF) inquiring about child-size caskets. They also inquired regarding preservation techniques for bodies that had been exposed to the weather. G. Dennis saw 'strange stuff" in the back of ambulances when he took an airman to the base hospital. 07/08/1947 - Marcel took the debris to Ft. Worth. Gen. Ramey spread the debris on the floor of his office, told Marcel to step out and when Marcel returned the debris magically turned into 'weather balloon' debris. Marcel was told to keep his mouth shut! G. Dennis met with a nurse friend from the hospital and she drew what she saw on the examining table. She was transferred to England the next day and was declared dead soon thereafter. 07/09/1947 - Gen. Ramey issued a press release to state that: The Saucer Story is just a Weather Balloon! In the mean time, Henderson flew the alien bodies (that he saw) from RAAF to Wright Patterson AFB, OH or maybe Denver, CO or even Ft. Worth, TX. Who knows? You decide whether this was a real incident or just a cover up?
It sure sounds elaborate if it was 'just a weather balloon'.......hmmm........strange......... Check out these pics and our 'travel in pictures' page! You decide!
Old Town Albuquerque! Saludos! Indian Cultural Center & Nuclear Science Museum, Albuquerque, NM
Dr. D. Maxwell Ellett, a Yale PhD in Mechanical Engineering, now 93 yrs old (he was 16 when he went to Yale!) and still volunteering at the museum, was a 2nd lieutenant with the Army Corp of Engineers during the Manhattan Project. He joined the Army after his brother died at the Battle of the Bulge. Dr. Ellet personally assisted many of the key scientists and was involved with all aspects of that highly kept secret. What a treat to talk with such a knowledgeable man and someone who was there on the ground when history was made. In 1946, Dr. Ellett moved to Z company which became the Sandia National Laboratory. There he worked on the WIPP (Waste Isolation Pilot Project) which centered on the environmental impact of nuclear testing and nuclear waste. He is still working hard at the museum and Allan & I were thrilled to hear the impact of technology first hand! Thank you Dr. D. Maxwell Ellet for your service and your contribution to the event that has changed the world forever. Thank you also to Mimi, his daughter for allowing me to share his story.
Soooo... of course, Allan HAD to see Winslow cuz, being an Eagles fan during their hey days.... he HAD to STAND ON THIS 'INFAMOUS' CORNER IN WINSLOW, AZ. We're such tourists... pathetic... cheesey to boot! No, we didn't buy a T-Shirt.
Can you imagine that these ancient people only had wooden ladders to go to their dwelling and to go to wherever they desired, to gather water and hunt... NOT ME! But, wait... BEFORE we got to this place.. we had to take Gertrude, our beloved chubby RV up this RAVINE.... all 6000 ft high in elevation, two lane road!!! Of course, I was sitting on the ravine side! I was white knuckling it all the way....... Meta... YOU WOULD NOT HAVE SURVIVED THIS TRIP! Check out our 'Travel in Pictures' page to see these amazing ancient cave dwellers site.
Twenty five years ago, we visited Sedona with Nick & Erin, just kids at that time. Nick & Erin, being such daredevils, truly enjoyed the Pink Jeep Tours especially since they just LOVE to see me suffer. As you probably now know, I'm afraid of heights and am VERY protective when kids go too close to the edge of anything higher than 6 ft! Soooo, true to their 'let's scare mom' nature, Nick decided to jump off a ledge... and Erin screaming.... Oh NO mom... Nick just jumped off the ledge...! Me.. not knowing that there was a another ledge before the big drop... had a kenipshen fit, thinking he's flat as a pancake at the bottom of the cliff.... well, of course he wasn't and popped up to show me he was perfectly intact! Mean huh... I think so... WELL..... Allan & I decided to journey into memory lane and took a nostalgic Pink Jeep Tour. We had a blast! Check out our "TRAVEL IN PICTURES' page for the most awesome pics of the Red Rocks Landscape!
What were we thinking?.... We stayed at Camp Verde and wanted to see Montezuma's Castle... so, we ask Ms. GPS how far this National Monument was from where we stayed at Distant Drums RV Park in Camp Verde, AZ. Ms. GPS and Google maps both said 2 mi. Since it was pretty hilly (translation: too demanding for a bike ride), we decided, great.... that's walking distance... so, away we went. It was still early enough in the morning and temperatures were still cool. All we would need is some water and our walking shoes... right?....wrong! The 2 mi hike turned out to be 3.5 miles, and in the middle of the desert, low 70's feel like 90 deg!!! 3.5 mi was to the visitor center... then some more hiking to the ruins..... Total hike: 5.5mi with nothing but mesquite bushes and salamanders.
Phew... after it was all said and done... we were too pooped to hike back and decided to use the thumb routine. Luckily some hospitable old seniors gave us a ride in the back of their truck... I know, I know... hitch-hiking is not the best way for seniors to get from point A to point B, but... if point B is in the Arizona desert... one must just trust some other seniors :-) Bottom line... It was an amazing place.. Definitely worth the trip. Check out our 'TRAVEL IN PICTURES' page. Erin tells me that the Christmas car and the other 'strange' cars we saw in San Diego is part of an 'art car' movement! She first saw them in Oregon and Washington... no surprise there.... Well, we spotted another one in Phoenix, parked at the doggie park. Check other 'art cars' out at http://www.artcarfest.com/
