Slightly east of Flagstaff, AZ one can find the Walnut Canyon National Monument. We've never heard of it, and all I can say is WOW.... Incidentally, I REALLY get tired of hearing myself saying... 'WHAT AN AMAZING PLACE', it just seems that every place we've been and seen is more amazing than the next. This ancient Indian tribe must NOT have a FEAR OF HEIGHTS! I would be expelled from the tribe... To see this site, one has to descend 240 steps down... but that means you have to go 240 steps back up again. Then after the steps, it's another mile down a trail. Many spots, without railing and a cliff! I was soooo scared.. I was leaning towards the rock wall and had to tell people to please pass me, I will be VERY slow... I had to hold on to Allan's pants in order to be able to take these pics. So, I apologize if they're a bit fuzzy! |
Can you imagine that these ancient people only had wooden ladders to go to their dwelling and to go to wherever they desired, to gather water and hunt... NOT ME! But, wait... BEFORE we got to this place.. we had to take Gertrude, our beloved chubby RV up this RAVINE.... all 6000 ft high in elevation, two lane road!!! Of course, I was sitting on the ravine side! I was white knuckling it all the way....... Meta... YOU WOULD NOT HAVE SURVIVED THIS TRIP! Check out our 'Travel in Pictures' page to see these amazing ancient cave dwellers site.
