Besides this activitat de stupido, we had an absolute fantastic time in Big Bend. We met some folks from NY who took us to some trails we couldn't get to with our RV (they had a truck) and while doing so, we met a Dutch couple, so of course I practiced my broken 'Nederlands'. Of course, we were invited to NY and Holland if we decide to go that direction! Woo hoo! | How can you tell when your a newbie? Well it's a lot like Sunday sailors, who leave their fenders dangling on the boat while sailing away... or when your sistah says....... "Moi Sailing" with a Martini in her hand, while 'almost' running into a sandbar!!! Yeah, sistah... you know the incident..... :-O Well, Allan & I, typical of newbie's and perhaps a little distracted by waving goodbye to our new-made friends in Big Bend, National Park... FORGOT TO REEL IN OUR AWNING while we're taking off!!!! Bye....bye....keep in touch....bye......suddenly..... crash.... bang.... WHAAAA?? What crashed? OMG.....We impaled an RV windshield with our awning.....!!!!!!!! YIKES.... Crash, Bang,.... OMG..... what a scare.......poor guys, they were having a nice breakfast and our awning came out of nowhere and rammed right into their beautiful Class A RV. You know the kind....yes the one with a VERY LARGE WINDSHIELD! Good thing, they weren't newbies and were old timers at this RVing thing.. They were very nice and understanding.... Good thing they were also too polite to REALLY tell us what they were thinking! Now, let's hope our insurance is as understanding as they are! What a bunch of dummies.... Guess, from now on... we'll need a check list! You noticed that 'reel in awning' is not on this check list either....!!! :-< Now we are staying in San Antonio to wait for the insurance adjuster and to get poor Gertrude's awning fixed. This is gonna cost us a pretty penny.... NEWBIES! The silver lining in all this is that 45 years ago, Allan & I started our married life in San Antonio, so may as well have some nostalgic experiences and see Ft. Sam Houston, where Allan was first stationed .... many moons ago. |
