Onward we go to Natchez the place of ground zero for the Natchez Trace Parkway, a 444 mile trail through 3 states and spanning 10,000 years of history. The natural travel corridor that became Natchez Trace dates back many centuries and bisects the traditional homelands of the Natchez, Chickasaw and the Choctaw nations. Meriwether Lewis (from the Lewis & Clark expedition) died on the Trace in 1809.
Today, the Trace creates a greenway from the bluffs of the lower Mississippi River to the southern Appalachian foothills of Tennessee. We intend to trace this Trace (no, not walking, with Gertrude, of course)!
In the meantime, it is relaxing time at Natchez State Park campground - aaah, nice and quiet by the lakeside, catching up with work, with our blog, some reading, hiking and biking. Adios for now!
