When we drove through Nebraska we saw, for the first time, the major grasslands and the vast landscape of field agriculture. At that time, we already thought that corn predominated the landscape. We were wrong... going north east to S. Dakota then to Minnesota and now Iowa... we have passed miles and miles and thousands and thousands of acres of corn! And, of course now we're camping in the middle of.... you guessed it... a corn field!
No, no 'children of the corn' stories.... Just absolutely magnificent agricultural landscape. The land undulates with oceans of corn, interspersed with sunflowers, hops, alfalfa and the 'roll up hay bales'. Nothing is small here. The ag equipment is monstrous in size and 'Ethanol' production signs are everywhere. This is the land of biofuel production. The skies are also magnificent. The weather is a clashing of hot air colliding with cold air, causing major turbulence. The last time we couldn't hear ourselves think was due to rain storms in Keaau, HI. Journeying through this land, hail, thunder, lightning and rain have no mercy.... We were pelted with it all.
Our photos do not give it justice, but below is just a small attempt to show you this huge expanse!
