Meta told us, don't miss Jekyll Island on your way south, and WOW did we enjoy our stop-over at the Golden Islands of GA. Jekyll Island is a beautiful island and a model for us humans respecting mother nature. Jekyll Island is one island in the string of the Golden Islands of GA where 65% of the island was kept wild. What a treat, especially since Jekyll Island could have gone totally the way of commercialism as it was THE most exclusive retreat for the Rich & Famous, such as the likes of the Rockefellers, the Vanderbilts, the J.P. Morgans and others. This island was known for the place of Men of Means.... Well, nowadays, they let anybody come in as it is part of a State Park..... YAY! They even let us in with Gertrude. All one has to do is pay a $6 and you have the whole island to explore... and explore we did... 28 miles by bicycle!!!! :-O
But how fun that was... it was well worth it even with all the sore muscles, jello legs and aching knees! The historical ruins we discovered, the Turtle Center where they have a Turtle Hospital, the eerie Spanish Moss hanging from the most spectacular Oak Trees, the AMAZING Driftwood Beach... Look for yourself.. I think you'll agree! Thank you Meta!
